At Kate Robbins Therapy I see a lot of clients who, due to a variety of factors, are either starting to lose mobility and flexibility or have reoccurring muscle pain which requires long term treatment. Losing mobility can often creep up on people, it can be as simple as not being able to turn your head fully, making driving more difficult but if left unaddressed it can lead to far more serious issues, especially as we age.
Medical conditions such as Parkinsons disease, Obesity and Arthritis can also cause a reduction in mobility which can have serious consequences and eventually lead to a loss of independence.
Sports Massage can help address these issues, improve mobility and reduce discomfort but it doesn't address the underlying issue of why mobility is being lost or stop it from reoccurring and that's were the 1:1 stretch and mobility training comes in.
The stretch and mobility training is 1:1 training targeted specifically at helping individuals to regain and keep their mobility as long as possible. Sessions are made up of three key areas, stretching, to increase flexibility, joint mobilisation to get the body moving again and strength training to help rebuild lost muscle and future proof the body.
Each session is completely tailored to the individual, their needs and their current abilities and can accommodate any level of physical fitness.
Stretch and Mobility is for anyone concerned about their flexibility and mobility. It is however especially useful for older adults, individuals who struggle with muscle pulls, aches and pains, those suffering from conditions which are reducing their mobility, individuals whose work or workout routine is physically strenuous or anyone who is new to physical activity and is looking for a way to get started without feeling overwhelmed.
Q. I can't stand for long periods will I be able to take part?
Yes. Stretch and Mobility training is completely tailored to the individual, if standing is difficult training can be conducted sitting or even lying down.
Q. I'm really unfit and embarrassed will I feel foolish or be unable to keep up?
No. Training is 1:1 in your home so no one will see you but me. These are not high intensity sessions, these sessions focus on slow considered movements, training the body to move in the right way, not the fastest way.
Q. Can I regain my mobility?
Assuming their is no underlying medical issue there is no reason why you can't see significant improvement in your mobility, there are however some cases in which we can't restore mobility but instead focus on delaying any further reduction and keeping you active for as long as possible.
Q. Is this Yoga/ Pilates
No. Some exercises maybe similar to those seen in other types of training but Stretch and Mobility is a combination of stretching, mobility and strength training and is no single form of exercise.
Q. Will I have to lift weights? I don't like strength training.
It's unlikely you'll even notice your doing strength training to start with as strength training isn't just about lifting weights and squatting. Often the strength training will be far more functional, like rising from a sitting position without using your hands.
Q. I'm unstable and fall a lot, is there a risk I'll fall during training.
You'll never be asked to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing or that is beyond your capability and you'll be monitored and physically supported through out.
